End of Year, New Work

Well its been quite an exciting year and I've been pretty busy all in all. I'm working towards a solo  show in 2018 to showcase my current 'Existence is Doubted' project. I've also applied for a few opportunities so fingers crossed on that front.
Finally finished a new animation titled 'Interstellar Fly-by' again this uses my own drawings as textures, with the whole piece being inspired by the 'Voyager' space probes. The music/audio is Blind Willie Johnsons 'Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground' a stunningly atmospheric piece which is one of the 31 audio tracks chosen for the gold records stored on the 'Voyager' probes launched in 1977. Voyager has now left the influence of our solar system and is in Interstellar space, but at least its got a great mix-tape to keep it company. I think it fits perfectly. I have also been working on a large scale piece (titled New Tethyzonia) of over 20 different drawings which fit together to make a cartographic- like landscape, the idea being that each tile is a different plot. Ideally I would like to make an animation using the whole drawing to be shown beside it when complete, but we will have to wait and see how it goes. I've finished 12 only 10+ to go. Some examples should be below. Happy New Year to all and see you in 2018.

Drowned World View2

After a reshoot with different angles, quickened up a bit  and a rethink with the perspective issues I'm really pleased with this second animation. Take it away...

Drowned World (The Abadoned Facility) completed 'Blender' animation November 2017

Here is the final rendering of my recent animation (stills already shown), although its far from perfect, I don't think there's much more I can do on my little laptop, although I may well work back into the landscape to sculpt it in a bit more detail and maybe render a smaller clip from a different angle to sort out the perspective. Still I'm quite pleased with it. So without further a do...'DrownedWorld (The Abandoned Facility) take 3.There is some flashing/flickering imagery at the start.

New Work and Exhibition News November 2017

So as we reach the end of another year I've been pretty busy. New work is always on the march and I've just completed a large 'Matrix' drawing (pictures to follow later) as well as a number of new paintings, smaller drawn works and some more animations. Below should be some stills from an animation called ' Drowned World (abandoned 'Facility') which I have been working on and trying to get right for some time, I'm nearly there!!! Again this uses my map drawings as tools for all the scenery and textures in particular 'Jetsam' and an older piece, which is becoming a recurring feature, 'The Islands of Reil' .
I have also been invited to show a painting with 'Lumen Gallery',a London based gallery collective who explore themes relating to 'Astronomy' and 'Light' in their forthcoming show at Bankley Studios. for more info on the show and about the work of 'Lumen' please see:
 https://www.lumenstudios.co.uk/

Info relating to the Preview should be on there but please message me if you need anything further.

The Painting I am showing is  'Hypothetical Proto Planet 3 (near miss)' and is another entry in my ongoing project 'Existence is doubted'.

More new work and October Open Studios

So open studios 2017 at Bankley ( bankley.org.uk/ ) is not far away (6th-8th) and I will be open for the whole of the duration, alongside the artists studios there will be the annual 'Open Call' exhibition open for viewing as well. In my studio I will be working on drawings but will have some paintings, drawings and animations to view sowhy not pop in and say hello.
I have been working on some new animations (which has unfortunately taken longer than expected) which should be available to view below. The first is titled 'Flotsam and Jetsam (computer generated Space, Mass and Time and Charlie Kunz), completed using 'Blender' and the music of Charlie Kunz (a piece used in the film 'Withnail and I'). I wanted to create a piece that complimented my recent 'Flotsam' and 'Jetsam' drawings ( the digital piece in the rocky mass is 'Jetsam'), and embraced a sense of  dystopian isolation meets Tony Hart ".. lets look at your pictures in the gallery." etc.. The other clip is the first animation I completed ( 'Exoplanet' ) which at first seemed a bit of a failure but with time has taken on new value, the audio is from the NASA sound archive and is radio waves bounced off Saturn, fantastically creepy.

Animation - Outpost

I've just finished a new animation, titled 'Outpost (Flotsam and Jetsam)' again using my recent cartographic drawings as the basis for the rock/structure. It is quite basic and has a lot of improvements that can be made but i'm still pretty pleased.

New Work Summer 2017

I still have work on display at PS Mirabel for their 'Manifest' Open call show (for info on opening and location please see http://www.psmirabel.co.uk/ ), but in the meantime i've been busy working on some new pieces for exhibition in a future solo show/project.
Pictured are two paintings, the first is a continuation of the Perspex pieces (View 6 - The Facility) size A3 and the second titled 'Heatmap' Oil on Panel 50cm x 50cm. Alongside these I have been using my work to develop some basic animations using blender as an animation rendering tool. Now I don't profess to be any great film maker but I'm happy with the results so far. There is audio in mind to be added but as I'm not too sure about legality of using 'sound-bites' I'll leave them out for now.

Manifest 2017

Summer season is upon us and its time for the Manifest Arts Festival 2017
(https://www.manifestartsfestival.com/)  and I will be participating in two shows.
Firstly I have had two works selected for 'PS Mirabel Open Call' event titled 'Small World', all works in the show must measure under 20cm x 20cm. My works are titled 'Flotsam' and 'Jetsam' (pictured below) and continue my recent theme of works based upon macro photography, cartography and geophysics (amongst a number of other subjects).
The show lasts for the whole of the Manifest event and into August, but for more info and show times please see the PS Mirabel website (http://www.psmirabel.co.uk/).
The second event is the 'Bankley Studios' members show, titled 'Echo Chamber'. This is a diversion from the traditional salon format and  members have been asked to consider their time in the studio, the rituals and practices that take place and through a series of questions respond, through written statements and objects from their surroundings. Its been an interesting process coming up with a response and I look forward to see the results at the opening on Thursday 6th July .There is also an open studio day on saturday 8th July from 12-4pm to support this. Again for more info on opening times and location please see the 'Bankley' website and social media (http://www.bankley.org.uk/ ) and hope to see you all there. Cheers.

New Work and GM Art Prize 2017

I've finally finished the third painting in the series called 'The Facility' so here is 'View 3'

As before the piece is A3(size), Oil and Enamel paint on grey Perspex. The other two pieces in the series as mentioned in my previous post are currently featuring in the  'GM Art Prize'  pop up exhibition (for all the short listed works). The prize winners were announced the other night  and nobody could complain about the results, all were worthy of their awards and it's a great show. The exhibition is open for public viewing at specific times (presumably as it is in a working building) at 'The Chamber of Commerce' Deanesgate, Manchester, until June. For opening times and how to arrange a viewing please see the prize's website:  http://www.gmartsprize.co.uk/

January 2017 Some new works

Ive been working on some new paintings and am relatively pleased with the way things are moving. Pictured is (working title) 'The Facility'- (view 1), 30cm (h)x 42cm (w), oil and enamel on mineral grey matt finish 'Perspex', one of five planned paintings detailing 3d views of one of my digital sculptural/landscape works. The second is a close up of the first layers of paint from a piece titled 'Heat Map 1', 50cm x 50cm, Oil and Enamel on Panel. Hopefully I will be able to show these works in 2017/18 as a  body so people can get a perspective of the full project , but until then 'bits and bobs' will have to suffice.Cheers.
